Super Bruce needed data storage. Their research revealed that a few TBs of storage cost more than Super Bruce cost to build. Additionally, existing market solutions in their price range couldn’t scale like Super Bruce (SB). SB used an advanced parallel file system called GPFS by IBM that was found only in the world’s most complex supercomputing installations. They could scale processing power easily (hence the 8.5 feet of Intel chips), but couldn’t find an affordable solution to linearly grow storage.

They called some customers from their previous companies (Radiate, Corvigo, Tumbleweed). They all gave them the same answer: it couldn’t be found because affordable, clustered, scale-out storage didn’t exist for the midmarket. Their customers went on to add that if they could make midmarket storage solutions less costly, more convenient to manage, and with added control over scalability, they’d buy them.

So Scale Computing did.

Super Bruce transformed into their first Storage Nodes as the engineers wrote the code for their patent-pending Intelligent Clustered Storage (ICS) architecture.
